While there might be other subcompact SUVs on the market, the Jeep Renegade has no competitors. Some other subcompact SUVs might say they can go offroad, and some might even look like they can. But the truth is that the Renegade is the only vehicle in its class that can deliver on the promise its tough styling makes. With standard AWD and the Selec-Terrain® System, you can easily tackle whatever conditions pop up. To go with the impressive offroad capability, the Renegade also has an unusually high towing capacity, and the back seats fold down to offer a surprisingly large 50.8 cubic feet of cargo space. And it’s easy to enjoy your time prevailing over the elements that’s to options like a Dual-Pane Panoramic Sunroof, or the available 560-watt, 9-speak premium stereo.
What sets the Renegade apart from the rest of the segment the most is its capability. The Renegade is powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. It produces 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. This is a segment where most of the competition falls between 120 and 150 horsepower, so that should tell you the first advantage of picking the Renegade. Standard all-wheel drive is the next advantage, and it’s part of why the Renegade is an easy pick for the best offroader in its class. This is especially true of the Trailhawk trim, designed to maximize the offroad capability of the Renegade. This comes with offroad tires, a full set of skid plates and tow hooks, and a Rock Mode for the Selec-Terrain® System. It also comes standard with towing equipment, but all trims of the Renegade (when properly equipped) have the same towing capacity. Rated at 2,000 pounds, the Renegade stands out again in a segment where most vehicles aren’t rated for towing at all. Even quite a few bigger vehicles with bigger engines cap towing at 1,000 or 1,500 pounds.
Powering the infotainment system in the Renegade is the Uconnect® 4C NAV system. This system is responsive and easy to use, as well as compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Renegade once again has a few features that will set it apart from the pack. For example, the Renegade is compatible with Amazon Alexa, and you can ask your home Alexa to report on your fuel level or remote start your vehicle. You can also use it to send destinations to the navigation system. There is also SiriusXM Guardian™, which lets you send send destinations from your smartphone or tablet, and can send you monthly vehicle health reports to keep you up to date on the condition of your Renegade. And you can provide a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for those mobile devices, up to eight of them at a time, thanks to a 4G Wi-Fi Hotspot that even has an impressive 50-foot range.
The Renegade is all about pushing the boundaries of what you thought a subcompact SUV could do, and that applies to comfort as much as everything else. With 100 cubic feet of passenger space and 50.8 cubic feet of cargo space with the back seats folded down, the Renegade offers the kind of interior space that will surprise you. The available Dual-Pane Panoramic Power Sunroof makes the interior feel open and bright during the day, and the available LED ambient lighting sets the mood at night. The Limited trim comes with standard leather-trimmed and heated front seats and steering wheel. And a standard supplementary electric heater makes sure that you stay warm no matter what the temperature outside. Available on any trim is a premium stereo system that features 9 speakers and a 560-watt amplifier. And to help you look as good as you feel, bigger 18-inch wheels are available, as well as all-LED exterior lighting.
