The Durango takes a practical three-row SUV and infuses it with the muscle car heritage that is a defining feature of the Dodge brand. The muscle car styling catches the eye while the available V8 options deliver some seriously impressive performance credentials. Other signature attributes of the Durango include huge amounts of cargo space, an available third row of seats, and a best-in-class towing capacity. The Durango gives you the look and feel of a muscle car without the compromises that usually come with such a vehicle. The trim lineup is immense and Dodge gives you a choice of three different engines including the absolute beast that is the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® SRT V8 in the 710-horsepower Durango Hellcat. Creature comforts are plentiful as well and the Uconnect® infotainment system earns constant praise from the automotive press. This zero-compromise muscle machine is sure to put a smile on your face.
With the exception of some slight adjustments to the trim level offerings, you won’t find any significant changes to the potent Dodge Durango for the 2025 model year. With a replacement approaching the end of the design stage, many in the industry expect that the Durango will make its departure from the model lineup as quickly as next year. Act fast! This could be your final chance to get behind the wheel of this particular generation of the Dodge Durango.
While most of the rivals of the Dodge Durango come with a four-cylinder engine as standard, the default engine of the Durango is a 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 that produces 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. That’s a great starting point but there’s more. The first of the optional engines is a 5.7-liter V8 that produces 360 horsepower, 390 lb-ft of torque, and very genuine muscle car feel. For the absolute most power you get in the Durango, there is the Hellcat. The supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® SRT V8 engine produces 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. It will go from 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds, an absolutely unbelievable time for a three-row SUV. Six-piston high-performance Brembo brakes come standard on multiple trims and the Bilstein® Active-Damping High-Performance Suspension provides the kind of handling that you might not have thought possible in such a large vehicle.
All of that performance is great and all but it has limited appeal if the vehicle it comes with isn’t practical. That’s the real advantage of the Durango, you don’t have to choose between performance and practicality. In base form, the Durango comes with seating for seven and a huge cargo area in the back, 43.3 cubic feet of it. Drivers can fold down all of the seats behind the front row to create a cavernous 85.1 cubic feet of cargo space. A power liftgate also makes it easy to load and unload whatever cargo you need to haul. Massive as this is, the max towing capacity of the Durango is 8,700 pounds which leads its class, something you’re unlikely to find on too many performance vehicles. Of course, no family vehicle is truly practical without advanced safety features. So the Durango incorporates a number of proven effective features like Electronic Stability Control, Electronic Roll Mitigation, rain-sensing wipers, Blind Spot Monitoring, and a seriously powerful advanced braking system. All-wheel drive is also available on every trim and comes standard on several.
The Dodge Durango has a spacious interior and it’s every bit as comfortable as it looks. Heated front seats are standard as is a heated steering wheel on most trims. Heated and ventilated seats trimmed in Nappa leather are available as well and an available power sunroof adds some natural light. The Uconnect® system in the Durango is exceptionally easy to use and all trims come with a 10.1-inch touchscreen. This system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. A six-speaker Alpine® stereo system comes standard and can be upgraded to a 9-speaker version. For audiophiles, there is also the option of a Harman Kardon® system with a whopping 19 speakers. Of course, plenty of Durango buyers just want to listen to the sound of the engine but it’s good to have options.
